Momentum Developmental Support Corporation is currently accepting applications from qualified and experienced individuals for the post of Developmental Service Worker.

MDSC aims at a future where individuals with developmental disabilities are able to participate in their communities regardless of their disabilities and have access to necessary opportunities and supports where required to meet their individual needs. The organization is part of a group of community of care ventures under the umbrella of Seafair Capital, which comprises various accredited organizations specializing in community-based care and span operations in the provision of patient and client-focused community, home, and residential care.

Momentum Developmental Support Corporation, however, has five job openings for interested, qualified, and experienced developmental social workers.

The role of the Developmental Service Workers is to provide assistance and support to individuals suffering from developmental disabilities to help them lead fulfilling and independent lives. They are mainly going to be involved in helping clients with personal care, facilitating communications, assisting with mobility, providing emotional support, providing support for their daily living activities, etc.

Salary: $17.63 per hour, 12 to 40 hours biweekly. Other financial befits as per the collective agreement

Employment Type: Permanent employment, Part-time leading to full-time employment

Location: Stephenville, NL

Setting: Private residence, Group home, Work in employer’s/ clients

Requirements

Languages: Candidate must possess the knowledge of English Language

Education: Candidate should have at least a Secondary (High) School graduating certificate

Experience: The candidate must be experienced in the field.

Other Requirements:

  • The candidate should be willing to undergo a criminal check and must come out with a clean criminal record to get hired
  • The candidate should have his own means of transportation. He/ she should also possess a valid driver’s license
  • The candidate should possess a First Aid Certificate. He/she is preferred to have completed a certificate program in developmental services or related services such as social work, psychology, or education
  • The candidate must have previous working experience with individuals with developmental disabilities, either in a voluntary or paid capacity which can include group homes, day programs, schools, or other settings that cater to individuals with developmental disabilities
  • The candidate must have strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with clients, their families, and other healthcare professionals
  • The candidate should have the physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting, transferring, and assisting clients with movements. The candidate should weigh up to 13.5kg (30 lbs)
  • The candidate must be flexible and able to adapt to changing schedules and work environments and meet various clients’ needs. The candidate should be able to work in fast-paced environments and should be able to work under pressure

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be able to provide personal care and assistance such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and other tasks relating to personal care
  • The candidate should be able to facilitate effective communications with clients.  He/ she should also be to help clients communicate with others through speech therapy, assistive technology, sign language, etc.
  • The candidate should be able to provide emotional support to clients by listening to their concerns and providing encouragement, and assisting them in developing coping skills
  • The candidate should be able to assist clients with mobility issues by helping them with transfers from one position to another. He/she should be able to provide them with mobility aids and facilitate physical therapy
  • The candidate should be able to help clients in their daily living activities such as cooking, cleaning, shopping, and managing their finances
  • The candidate should be able to work with clients to identify their problem behaviors and help them develop strategies to manage those behaviors
  • The candidate should be able to monitor and track the progress of his/ her clients and record changes in their health, behavior, and overall wellbeing
  • The candidate should be able to work hand in hand with other healthcare professionals. He/she may work as part of a team of healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care for his/ her clients
  • The candidate should be able to advocate for his/ her client’s rights and ensure that they receive he care and support they need to live independently and achieve their goals
